  • Statement:

My latest work in metal consists of a series of bracelets cast in silver or bronze which are larger in scale and more sculptural than much of my previous jewelry work. This may be due to the inherent nature of the bracelet form but is also a logical evolution of my on-going work in sculpture and possibly a reflection or assimilation of forms encountered during trips to East Africa in 1991 and Côte dêIvoire in 1995.
Technically I am modeling the wax less while frequently constructing the primary forms using sheet wax and/or collaging found scrap wax forms discarded from earlier wax models. Very often ideas are generated by •playingê with the wax rather than imposing a preconceived design.

Drawing continues to be a strong interest. A series of 12 large ink drawings based on a study trip to Côte dêIvoire evolved into a Pinchpenny Press publication.  The drawings were included in recent exhibitions at Ohio Northern University, Ada, OH; Bethel College, Newton KS; and Washburn University, Topeka, KS in 1997.  "Senufo Patterns" below comes from this series.
