GC hosts first Instrumental Conducting Workshop Feb. 14-15
GOSHEN, Ind. -- The
Goshen College Orchestra and Wind Ensemble will host the first
Goshen College Instrumental Conducting Workshop Feb. 14 and 15.
The orchestra will serve as the laboratory ensemble for young
professional and pre-professional conductors from across the United
States who are coming to Goshen to refine their conducting skills
under the tutelage of workshop host and director Dr. John Graulty,
associate professor of music, and special guest clinician Mariusz
Smolij, recent resident conductor of the Houston Symphony and music
director of the Wroclaw Philharmonic, one of Europe’s
premiere professional orchestras.
Twelve conductor participants hailing from as far away as New York
City, Ann Arbor, Cleveland, Indianapolis, Virginia and Wisconsin
will spend an intense two days participating in lectures and
video-taped critiqued conducting sessions with the GC Orchestra and
Wind Ensemble. One Goshen College student, senior Julia
Hershberger, and one faculty member, Dr. Kathy Oyer, will also
participate.
