Brenda Witmer, soprano, to present recital Feb. 22 at Goshen College with Seitz

 

GOSHEN, Ind. -- Guest artist Brenda Witmer, soprano and voice faculty member at James Madison University will present a recital with Goshen College Assistant Professor of Music Christine Seitz at the piano on Sunday, Feb. 22 at 7:30 p.m. in Rieth Recital Hall, Goshen College Music Center.

Witmer has been described as singing "with deep emotional involvement and an upper register of pure silver," said the "Washington Post." She taught and performed for two years in Paris, France, and has since served on the faculty of Eastern Mennonite University, and most recently James Madison University's School of Music (Harrisonburg, Va.), where her duties have included music direction of opera theater, world music courses, private and class voice. The summer of 2003 marks the first time that she taught private voice for Opera-Festival di Roma (Italy).

Witmer has studied privately with Elly Ameling, Linda Mabbs, Marianna Busching and Kay Montgomery. During 2003, Witmer performed in France, Belgium, Puerto Rico and the Czech Republic. She has performed with the National Opera Institute of the St. Charles Art & Music Festival (Ill.), the Shenandoah Chamber Opera Company, the Fairfax (Va.) Symphony, the Columbia Pro Cantare, D.C.'s New Dominion Chorale and the Shenandoah Valley Choral Society.

Seitz received a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in music from Indiana University South Bend.
