Goshen College Chamber Choir to conclude tour with local sacred music concert March 7

GOSHEN, Ind. -- Following its Tour 2004, the Goshen College Chamber Choir will present a sacred program of songs from around the world on March 7 at 7:30 p.m. in the GC Music Center's Sauder Concert Hall.

The Chamber Choir traveled to Ohio, Pennsylvania and Virginia for performances during its Feb. 28 to March 6 tour, with stops in Stryker, Archbold, Orrville and Louisville, Ohio; Souderton and Lancaster, Pa.; and Harrisonburg, Va.

Led by Associate Professor of Music Dr. Debra Brubaker, the Chamber Choir's 25 student voices will guide the congregation through a worship experience, including several South African freedom songs, spirituals, American hymn tunes and songs in Spanish, Latin and English. In addition, the group will sing several pieces -- including one not yet published -- composed by father and son composers, Phillip Clemens, 1963 GC graduate from Corry, Pa., and Jim Clemens, a 1987 GC graduate from Downers Grove, Ill.

"Singing and music-making is a natural way for us to express our faith in God, and our faith in each other and the larger world. It is a gift we can share to celebrate God’s creation of life in us," Brubaker said. Goshen College's Music Department maintains four choral ensembles, two instrumental ensembles, an opera scenes program and a growing chamber music program.

Admission to the concert is $5 general admission, $3 seniors and students and free for Goshen College students. Tickets available at the door. For more information call the Goshen College Welcome Center at (574) 535-7566 or e-mail joannp@goshen.edu.
