Female singer-songwriters Ferron and Barbara Higbie to perform at Goshen College, April 11

Ferron

Barbara Higbie

GOSHEN, Ind. – The Goshen College radio station, 91.1FM The Globe, and the weekly radio show “A Women’s Circle” are sponsoring female musicians Ferron and Barbara Higbie in concert on Goshen College’s Umble Center stage on Friday, April 11 at 7:30 p.m.

Ferron is a Canadian folk singer-songwriter who has opened a women's retreat center near Three Rivers, Mich., this past year. “She is touring less than usual these days, and it’s quite a treat to have her living in the area,” said Wilma Harder, Goshen resident and host of “A Women’s Circle.” “Ferron’s music has been a mainstay on ‘A Women’s Circle’ for the last 21 years. Her lyrics are hauntingly insightful, and her music is unlike any other.” Ferron’s new release “Boulder” will be coming out in May. To out more about Ferron, visit: www.ferrononline.com and www.thefensanctuary.com.

Higbie is an award-winning violinist and pianist. She has recorded with Ferron (and many others) and is a Windham Hill recording artist, currently touring with The Women of Windham Hill. She plays many different styles of music, including folk, bluegrass, jazz, new age and pop. She has toured and recorded with the group Montreux, and recently moved to Hawaii. Reserved tickets cost $20 in advance or $25 at the door, or $10/$12 for students and can be purchased by calling the Goshen College Welcome Center at (574) 535-7566.

“A Women's Circle” airs weekly on Sundays from 6-7 p.m. on The Globe. Harder has been hosting the show for 21 years and believes her show is the longest running radio program dedicated to women’s music in the country.

91.1 FM The Globe, celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, is managed by members of the Goshen College Communication Department under the direction of General Manager Jason Samuel. It is one of the college’s significant co-curricular activities, preparing students to become broadcast professionals while providing a service to the Michiana community.
