Banana Slug String Band brings environmental folk music for the family Oct. 16

GOSHEN, Ind. -- Who knew learning about composting, the food chain and banana slugs could be so much fun?

The Banana Slug String Band, a talented group of teachers who helped pioneer the art of children's edu-tainment, will bring the "FUN-damentals of science and ecology" to Goshen College during a family concert Oct. 16 at 7 p.m. in Umble Center.

The Banana Slug String Band is nationally known for promoting environmental awareness through original folk music. With vocals, guitars, mandolin, bass, harmonica, banjo and percussion, Slug songs range from rockin' boogies to sensitive ballads, from folk songs to reggae and rap. Music, theater, puppetry and audience participation create an active fun-filled learning experience for all ages.

The group of fun-loving musicians and educators hail from the coastal redwoods of Northern California. The band received the Association for Independent MusicÕs Indie Award in 2000 for the Best Children's Album.

This concert is jointly sponsored by the Dave Klahre Memorial Fund and Plowshares at Goshen College.

This event is open to the public. Tickets will be sold at the door: $3 for adults and youth (13 years and older) and $1 for children (12 years and under).
