Alumnus bassoonist returns to Goshen College for recital Oct. 19



GOSHEN, Ind. -- Michael Parker-Harley, 1994 Goshen College graduate, will present a bassoon recital in Rieth Recital Hall Oct. 19 at 4 p.m.

Parker-Harley, a GC music department faculty from 1998 to 2000, will be accompanied by clarinetist John Graulty, associate professor of music, and pianist Steven Aldredge. He will perform works by Georg Philipp Telemann, Carl Maria von Weber, Paul Ben-Haim, Leland Bland and Mikhail Glinka.

Parker-Harley is currently an instructor of music at Wright State University, Dayton, Ohio, where he teaches applied bassoon, woodwinds, music theory and keyboard musicianship, and directs the Collegium Musicum, an early music ensemble. Parker-Harley received a master's of music degree in bassoon from the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. He is currently pursuing a doctorate at the Eastman School of Music, Rochester, N.Y., where in 2003 he was awarded the Performer's Certificate, the school's most prestigious performance-based honor.

Parker-Harley is also a member of the critically acclaimed contemporary music ensemble Alarm Will Sound. He has played with numerous professional and regional orchestras in the Midwest, including in Columbus and Dayton, Ohio, and Fort Wayne and South Bend, Ind.

Admission to the recital is $5 general admission and $3 seniors and students. Tickets available at the door.
