Goshen cancer surgeon to present Yoder Public Affairs Lecture Nov. 4;
Hostetter opens 2003-04 Goshen College lecture series

GOSHEN, Ind. -- A presentation titled "Cancer: What you need to know, what you need to do" by Dr. Richard B. Hostetter will launch the 2003-04 Goshen College Yoder Public Affairs Lecture series at 8 p.m. on Nov. 4 in the Church-Chapel.

Hostetter, medical director of the Center for Cancer Care at Goshen Health System since 1999, will present an illustrated lecture highlighting the current state of research, diagnosis and treatment of cancer. He will specifically address the question of the incidence of cancer in Northern Indiana in relation to national statistics.

Hostetter is a board-certified general surgeon with a specialty in surgical oncology. In addition to his practice, he holds an appointment as a clinical assistant professor of surgery with the Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis. His medical degree was completed at the Medical College of Virginia, Richmond.

John J. Fisher, a member of the Yoder Public Affairs Lecture committee and professor emeritus of English, said, "Goshen is fortunate to have a state-of-the-art, multi-faceted center for cancer care that not only provides access to the latest research but also initiates its own. Dr. Hostetter is uniquely qualified to give a comprehensive report on new national and local developments in a public health endeavor that, directly or indirectly, affects us all."

This public event is sponsored by the Goshen College Yoder Public Affairs Lecture Committee. This event is free and open to the public.

The Yoder Public Affairs Lecture Series began in 1978 when Frank and Betty Jo Yoder of Goshen created an endowed lectureship to enable faculty, students and community members to hear widely known speakers address current issues.
