Christian band Paul Colman Trio to perform at Goshen College Nov. 7;
New release, One, a message of reconciliation

GOSHEN, Ind. -- Winners of the 2003 Dove Awards "New Artist of the Year," the Paul Colman Trio will share their serious message of reconciliation, wrapped in an infectious blend of power pop and rock music, at Goshen College on Nov. 7 at 8 p.m. in the college's Sauder Concert Hall, Music Center.

Since the release of its first international album New Map of the World, the Paul Colman Trio (guitarist/vocalist Paul Colman, bassist Grant Norsworthy and drummer Phil Gaudion), originally from Australia, has been criss-crossing the United States, Europe and Australia singing heartfelt ballads right alongside the rollicking, crowd-pleasing pop tunes. In late September, they started on the road with their newly released album, One.

A CCM Magazine review of the group's new album said, "One ultimately reveals a continually maturing band capable of delivering inviting melodies and a transforming message."

The single theme of One is reconciliation -- among friends, family, individuals and the church. "In John 17, Jesus says, 'I pray that they be one,'" Colman said. "This album is an exploration of what that sounds and looks like. We hope it's a challenge in a spiritual way but not at all preachy." Paul Colman Trio fans know that the band is anything but preachy; its high-energy, humorous and entertaining live shows counterbalance the weight of its message.

"Every song is an exploration in vertical or horizontal reconciliation and what the implications of that are," Colman said. "Jesus said if we love one another, the world would know we are His disciples."

A merging of musical cultures can be heard throughout One, from the rich pop refrains of the opener "I'll Be With You" and the crunchy rock punch of "Live It!" to the lilting sensitivity of "Into Your Arms" and the doo-wop-infused "Save My Soul."

Besides receiving the 2003 Dove Award, the group was named to Radio & Records magazine annual list of Top 10 Breakthrough Artists and has received a Grammy nomination for Best Pop/Contemporary Gospel Album.

The group has toured with Third Day and FFH. Opening act Sarah Kelley also promises to add powerful, gutsy rock and roll to the show.

The concert is part of a Discover GC Day & Overnight weekend on the Goshen College campus, designed to let high school students get a taste of college life.
