Goshen College choirs and more than 100 high school singers combine with Toledo Symphony for concert

GOSHEN, Ind. – Musicians will gather on the Sauder Concert Hall stage at Goshen College's Music Center as the Goshen College choirs unite with a high school honors choir of more than 100 students from across the country, the Toledo Symphony and Grammy award winning conductor and Goshen College alumnus Vance George '55 to perform a gala festival concert on Saturday, Nov. 15 at 7:30 p.m. In total, more than 200 singers will participate in this festival concert.
The program will include Schubert's "Mass in G Minor," Brahms' "Geistliches Lied, Op. 30," Bach's "Magnificat," Bernstein's "Make Our Garden Grow" from "Candide" and "Somewhere."
The Toledo Symphony is a regional orchestra of the highest caliber, now in its 65th consecutive year of successful programming. In its commitment to provide excellent music to the largest possible audience, the Toledo Symphony remains an essential force in the quality of life throughout the region.
George is widely recognized as one of America's leading choral conductors. He served as chorus director of the San Francisco Symphony Chorus from 1983 to 2007, and accepted four Grammy awards on behalf of the Orchestra and Chorus during his tenure there. He recently accepted a position as director of the San Francisco State University Chamber Singers. Vance is a native of Nappanee (Ind.) and is a graduate of Goshen College and Indiana University.
Other directors for the concert are Debra Brubaker, professor of music at Goshen College, and Scott Hochstetler, assistant professor of music at Goshen College.
There are 13 local and national high schools with student representation. They include: Goshen High School, Bethany Christian High School (Goshen), Fairfield High School (Goshen), Elkhart (Ind.) Central High School, Elkhart (Ind.) Memorial High School, Concord High School (Elkhart, Ind.), Northwood High School (Nappanee, Ind.), Penn High School (Mishawaka, Ind.), Moundridge (Kan.) High School, Pettisville (Ohio) High School, Central Christian High School (Kidron, Ohio), Eastern Mennonite High School (Harrisonburg, Va.) and Iowa Mennonite School (Kalona, Iowa).
