Test-optional Admissions Information
Goshen College has a “test-optional” admissions policy for applicants who wish to enroll for their first-year of college.
More details about the policy:
- When completing your admissions application form, you may choose whether or not you would like to have your SAT/ACT test scores considered as a part of your admissions decision.
- If you indicate on your admissions application form that you would like to have your SAT/ACT test results considered in your admission decision, please have your test scores submitted to us as soon as possible to prevent delays on your final admissions decision.
- If you indicate on your admissions application form that you would NOT like to have your SAT/ACT test results considered in your admission decision, we will not count it against you when reviewing your application for admission.
FAQs
How do I submit my SAT/ACT test results to Goshen College?
Your SAT/ACT test results can be submitted to Goshen College directly through the test website (collegeboard.org or act.org). If your high school puts your SAT/ACT test scores directly on your transcript, then an official copy of your transcript will also be considered an official reporting of test scores.
What if I haven’t yet taken the SAT/ACT at the time of submitting my online application form to GC, but still want my test score considered once I do?
We encourage you to get your admissions application form and official transcripts submitted to Goshen College as early as possible, and to have your SAT/ACT test score submitted to us as soon as they are available. If you indicated on your admissions application form that you would like your test results considered in your admissions decision, we will not make a final admissions decision until we have received your test score.
Why should I submit my test score if it doesn’t count against me if I choose not to?
The more information you can provide us to demonstrate your academic abilities, the more informed of an admission decision we can make.
If I have a SAT/ACT test score, do I have to submit it?
No, even if you have an SAT/ACT test score you will not be required to submit it if you indicate on your admissions application that you would NOT like your SAT/ACT test results to be considered in your admissions decision.
What if I already sent my SAT/ACT test score to you, but have decided that I would NOT like it considered in my admissions decision?
If you have NOT yet completed your admissions application form, please indicate when completing that form that you would NOT like your test scores considered. Even if we receive your test results, we will not review them until you indicate on your application form that you would like us to do so.
How will submitting or not submitting my SAT/ACT test results impact my eligibility to receive scholarships from Goshen College?
While submitting your SAT/ACT test score helps us to best identify all academic scholarships for which you may be eligible, all students admitted to Goshen College (regardless of whether or not they provided a test score) will still be eligible to receive an academic scholarship and to apply for our achievement scholarships.
Does this policy apply to transfer applicants?
The test-optional policy applies to transfer applicants who have earned 23 or fewer college credits. SAT/ACT test scores are not considered in admissions decisions for transfer applicants who have completed more than 24 college credit hours.
