“Die Fledermaus”, an operatta by Johann Strauss, showcases the extravagant life of upper crust Vienna in the late 19th century. The story is typical operatic fare: disguises, celebrations, mistaken identities, surrepitious meetings, a “pants role,” cameo appearances, and more, all set to the sparking lilt of Strauss’s melodies.
