2010 Putnam Competition Results
Sarah Rody, Ruthi Wiens, and Chaim Hodges were three of the 4,296 contestants from 546 institutions in the 71st William Lowell Putnam Mathematical Competition. Each spent six hours on Saturday, December 4, 2010, solving twelve mathematics problems. For example, one problem was given a positive integer n, what is the largest k such that the numbers 1, 2, …, n can be put into k boxes so that the sum of the numbers in each box is the same? The problems are challenging and the scoring is tough: the median score this year was 2 out of 120 possible points! Sarah Rody and Ruthi Wiens scored 10 points for a rank of 1669.5. Congratulations!
