Putnam Competition
Bryan Yoder, Peter Schrock, and Kenan Bitikofer participated in the Putnam Mathematical Competition on December 5, 2015. The 4,275 participants worked for six hours on twelve difficult problems. Since each solution can earn up to 10 points, the maximum score is 120. The overall winner earned 99 points and the median score was 0 points (that is not a typo–more than half of the participants scored no points this year)! Goshen’s top student was Bryan Yoder (10 points placing him in the 73rd percentile). While we have had individual students rank higher in the past, this appears to be the first time Goshen College as a team broke into the top 150: we ranked 148 out of the 554 colleges participating. Congratulations!
