In the Goshen College secondary education program, you will learn how to make the subject you love come alive for middle and high school students. Our intensive secondary education program prepares secondary teachers to teach fifth through 12th-grade students in diverse classrooms around the country. With this program’s integrated focus on hands-on learning, you will have the opportunity to start field placements in local classrooms during your first year of study. The coursework will help you think critically and creatively about education in the United States, both past and present.
In addition to learning about teacher education, methods, and strategies, our secondary education prepares students with experience in student teaching and classroom management. You will work with students of all abilities and backgrounds and learn how to create a positive and inclusive learning environment for everyone. As Goshen College secondary education majors, aspiring teachers are well-equipped to make a difference in students’ lives and help them reach their full potential.

Secondary education students complete education courses for teacher certification while double majoring in one of many possible subject areas: chemistry, English, English as a new language, life sciences, math, music, Spanish, physical education, physics, social studies, theater or visual art.
