Drew Smoker ’24
Burnsville, North Carolina
Major: Physics
Why did you choose Goshen?
Both my parents and many of my family members attended Goshen. After staying the night as a prospective student, I really found a sense of community among fellow students that I had not felt before. I liked the small class sizes and student-professor relationships as well.
Why did you choose your major?
I always enjoyed math and science courses, and I wanted a challenge and the ability to problem-solve. I also want a career in engineering, and physics is the best path for pursuing that at Goshen.
What career are you interested in pursuing?
I want to be an environmental engineer, so I can protect the environment and help organizations be more sustainable. Additionally, I want a career that allows me to be outdoors, instead of just in an office all day.
What is a valuable experience that you have had at Goshen?
Joining the Prevention Intervention Network (PIN) has been valuable in my Goshen experience. I am proud that I can assist in working towards creating a safer, more inclusive campus by educating and creating a safe space for other students. I feel that the sense of community and liberal arts aspects of Goshen allow me to make a difference in an organization totally unrelated to my major.
