Piano pedagogy is a comprehensive minor that will help you develop the teaching techniques and knowledge needed to design study plans for beginner, intermediate, and advanced piano students. Additionally, you will gain access to an extensive selection of teaching resources to choose the most appropriate materials for each student.
Whether you are just starting in teaching private lessons or looking to gain further expertise and technical skills, our piano teaching program can help you be a more effective instructor for any student. Our minor in piano pedagogy also offers master classes on advanced piano literature, providing you with a deeper understanding of the pieces you will teach your students.
The piano pedagogy program at Goshen College provides prospective piano teachers with opportunities to learn from and work with some of the best musicians. You will also have plenty of chances to put your knowledge into practice by working with music students of our Community School of the Arts. A distinctive of our program, the Community School of the Arts, is one of the largest and most respected music programs in northern Indiana, located in the college’s world-class Music Center.

With coursework in advanced piano literature, teaching strategies for beginners and intermediates, and practical experience through observation and teaching at the Community School of Arts, our program is ideal for aspiring teachers looking to launch or advance their careers in music education.
Music majors and students of other majors can use this minor to supplement their studies with music studies and other courses for a broader range of teaching experience.

Goshen College’s Vox Profundi, the campus low voice choral ensemble, will welcome invited choirs from area high schools for a day of rehearsals, culminating in an evening performance in Sauder Concert Hall.
Parables, Goshen College’s student worship, drama and music ensemble, will present their final concert of the 2024-25 academic year in Rieth Recital Hall.

Maddie Ruth graduated in 2014 with a psychology major and music minor. She was a member of the tennis team, wrote for the campus newspaper, The Record, played violin in the GC symphony orchestra and sang in chamber ensembles.
Maddie's storyHenry Stewart graduated from Goshen College in 2014 with a music and biochemistry double major. As a student, he was known for playing the accordion, writing award-winning music compositions and as an academic star.
Henry's storyHillary Harder, a music and Spanish double major from Wichita, Kansas, is a musician, peacemaker, ministry leader and lover of teatime and one-on-one talks. She graduated in 2015.
