Connor Clemens ’19
Connor was a molecular biology/biochemistry major from Ellicott City, Maryland who spent a summer shadowing two doctors in Baltimore, Maryland, including Dr. Paul Sack, an Endocrinologist at Union Memorial Medstar Hospital, and Dr. Kenneth Yim, a Nephrologist part of Mid-Atlantic Nephrology.
“(Dr. Sack) gave me much insight into the world of medicine and his experiences in medical school. Dr. Sack treats a variety of diseases, including thyroid disease and diabetes. Patients with diabetes make up the largest percentage of his patients, and I was able to learn about the disease. I had the privilege to observe Dr. Sack’s impact he makes in improving the lives of the patients he treats.
“(Dr. Yim) is the head of a variety of dialysis units across the greater Baltimore area. I had the privilege of shadowing him as he oversaw numerous different patients in different units across Baltimore. The diversity of the units he oversaw in combination with the differing patient demographics were a wonderful overview of the variability of the medical field between populations. He taught me much about the future of healthcare, the intricacies of dialysis and the constant learning that comes with being a physician.”
