Shifting demographics of northern Indiana
The Center for Intercultural Teaching and Learning was established in 2006 as a place to study the experiences of the growing Latino immigrant population of Northern Indiana and to help recruit and retain Latino students into Goshen College. In this session, we will hear some of the lessons learned through these efforts that can be used in other organizations to develop positive intercultural experiences for all in our community.
Presenter: Rebecca Hernandez, Ph.D., is the director for the Center for Intercultural Teaching and Learning (CITL) and assistant professor in the Department of Nursing at Goshen College. Born in Joliet, Ill., and a daughter of migrant farm workers, Dr. Hernandez has been working on Latino issues throughout her career, first as a schoolteacher, then as a community program director and lately as a researcher.
