Ben Weibe writes about our visit to the training center created by the Yachana Foundation:
On our fourth day at Yachana Lodge we were able to tour the occupational school that the Yachana Foundation is able to run with proceeds from the lodge. In addition to teaching students very practical skills such as culinary and industrial arts, the school also has a large focus on environmental sustainability. They have installed composting toilets, solar panels, an aqua-phonics system and a garden using permaculture strategies. Some of these practices can be applied by students in their home communities and thus benefit their local environments. Learning about this side of the organization was very fascinating as we were able to see how the founder had the vision to set up a financially sound organization that also does long-term good in the community. It definitely felt like a good organization to support by staying at the lodge.
