Here is Dylan Peachey’s description of our trip to the cacao plantation and processing facility:
In Tena, Ecuador we visited a cacao farm. The farm we visited sells cacao to the Kallari Chocolate Company. At the farm our group helped to harvest the cacao. This experience gave me an understanding of the nature of the cacao trees, pods, and beans. Following the visit to the farm we ventured to a Kallari processing facility where the beans are fermented, dried, sorted and bagged. Finally we learned about the Kallari Chocolate Company at a regional office. I am interested in how business affects local economies, the environment and people. It is inspiring to observe a successful company which works to produce fine chocolate to sell on a global market to improve the lives of Ecuador´s cacao farmers as well as protect the environment.
