Vasanth Palanisamy writes about a snake he encountered outside his cabin at Yachana Lodge:
One fine evening, I and two more students were walking back from the dining hall in one of the lodges we stayed at. The lodge was on the top of a mountainous area. There were a lot of trees and wildlife around the lodge. Due to environmental reasons, the lodge did not have street lights so all of us were asked to carry a torch light with us. When I got close to my room I saw something slipping through the grass. It was yellow and brown in color and I wasn´t sure what it was. I thought it was a snake and I pulled my roommate back so he would not step on it. After a few seconds we realized that it was a snake and I decided to call the tour guide, Alfonso, and our professor. When Alfonso came to the spot he told us it was a Coral Snake, which is one of the most poisonous snakes in the world. We patiently waited for the snake to go into the woods. The guide followed the snake and took a few pictures for us. I had seen a lot of snakes in India before but it was a fascinating experience to encounter a Coral Snake outside my room.
