On Sunday after church, we took a 4+ hour drive from Quito to Tena. The drive was through the mountains. David Shenk came in clutch, getting some motion sickness medicine for us. This was a great relief to us who were sick or could easily get sick on a drive that was more steep and curvy than Colorado. The whole while down, I found myself admiring the evidence of landslides, humming C. W. McCall’s “Wolf Creek Pass” to myself, and remembering a family journey through the Great Smoky Mountains which is home to the world’s largest solid double yellow line.
All of a sudden, my thoughts were rudely interrupted by two important sightings: an ice cream stand, and cows. Oh, but the cows! Finally, something to make me feel at home. Speaking of home, I wish nothing but the best for all at home — especially, Lydell, whose first birthday is this week. May you always have green grass like the cows here, as well as rocks the size of a grapefruit.
