The past few days have mostly consisted of one thing: long bus rides. The first was a five hour ride from the metropolis of Quito to the middle of the Amazon in Tena. Motion-sickness pills came in handy on this ride. As the city scenery slowly faded, the road began winding through densely-forested mountains unlike anything I’ve ever seen. The second was another five hour ride from Tena to the city of Coca with similar scenery.
How did we pass this time? A lot of naps. When most of our days start at 7:00 am, this was the obvious choice for most of us. When we weren’t asleep, the people in the back would suffer through my irritating riddles. Many of us also opted to listen to music while surveying the scenery and taking a few pictures. During these bus rides, however, it was hard to not look out the window at scenery that almost didn’t seem real.
