On Sunday we went to the church in Zábalo. It was really fun trying to sing songs in Cofán and also sing hymns for the congregation. In the afternoon we had the opportunity to go to three different workshops. We had to choose between making chicula, a traditional banana drink, carving wooden figures from balsa wood, or learning how to make a shigra bag. I went to the one where we learned how to make the bag. It was amazing how skilled Gladys, the woman teaching us, was. She was able to make the knots very fast.
We had traditional Cofán foods for dinner. We had a good time figuring out how to eat the different foods. They were really good! After dinner Jose Ortiz and I played a card game with Maicol, Ender, Davies and Suco (Cofanes from Zábalo). We had a lot of fun playing and the kids caught on really quick. We were so into the game we kept playing for a while after the generator lights were turned off. Interacting with the kids was a good way to learn a little bit about the Cofán way of life.
