The past two days have consisted of various tours of the city and getting acquainted with where we are staying and having classes. We also purchased Oyster cards, which allow us to use all of the public transportation around two central zones of London. Today we visited the different arts venues that we will be going to for various shows while we are here. Some of these locations include:
– Southbank Centre
– The National Theater
– Tate Modern Museum
– Shakespeare Globe Theater
– St. Paul’s Cathedral
– Royal Opera House
– Actor’s Church (St. Paul’s Church)
We toured the city by dividing the group into three sections and taking different routes around to the locations, therefore we had unique views of the city. My group ended up walking a total of 8.9 miles throughout the day, but did use public transportation a few times. After we finished visiting the locations the students were free to have dinner and go to any arts events in the evening. Some of the popular events attended tonight were:
– a concert by Britten Sinfonia of neoclassicist works by Stavinsky
– a jazz group playing in the Crypt
– a show called Beyond Caring at the National Theater
– a creative production of Shakespeare material
We are feeling much more comfortable here in London and we are looking forward to see more of the wonderful arts opportunities here!
