On Thursday, February 27 the Goshen Men’s Choir started their day by singing at the all-male Holy Cross Catholic School. There were a mix of choir and band students who ranged from eight graders to seniors which we performed for. After our performance we received many questions ranging from interest in the application process of becoming a music student to inquiries of whether the choir had a spotify station. The choir then proceeded to the nearest park for a quick pit stop for lunch before heading to the French Quarter to get their last taste of the vibrant city and culture of New Orleans. Among some of the street side sensory experiences were second line jazz bands, the Mississippi River, Bourbon Street, Jazz Clubs, Restaurants, Voodoo Shops, Bars, and many other sights. By the grace of the second line jazz band on Jackson Street the Goshen Men’s Chorus was afforded the opportunity to perform a Moses Hogan (native of New Orleans) piece “My Souls Been Anchored in the Lord.” After the choir’s short stint as street performers they scattered across the French Quarter enjoying the local cuisine that included gumbo, muffuletta, jambalaya, po’boys, beignets with cafe au lait at Cafe Du Mond, a historic beignet shop open since the Civil War. Later that evening the chorus met up at their traveling bus and said their last goodbyes to the memories that were made in New Orleans as they embarked on their 17 hour ride back to Goshen. A wonderful last glimpse to wrap up the tour “Ride on King Jesus.”
