History lecture by Aynn Setright.

Yesterday the students had a lecture on Nicaraguan history by Aynn Setright, a 30-year resident of Nicaragua and the director of the School for International Training in the country. Beforehand the students had prepared a list of questions for her. Although the lecture lasted two hours, students were captivated by the stories.
Today we took a field trip to the Masaya Volcano National Park and the tourist market in the adjacent city of Masaya. The Masaya Volcano continually emits clouds of steam, but in December molten lava came up into the bottom of the crater. The park was closed for several months, until 1.5 weeks ago, and now visitors are allowed to spend 10 minutes at the crater. Maria and Doug have visited the crater numerous times since 1990, but this is the first time they have seen molten lava in the crater. Currently it is one of only 3 volcanos in the world with a pool of lava.
After visiting the volcano we went to the neighboring city of Masaya, Nicaragua’s 3rd largest city and handicrafts capital, to shop at the main handicrafts market.
Today the largest newspaper in the country ran an article and photo about the team’s first game.
