The GC Chamber Choir departed GC at the Rec-Fit Center at around 9:15 AM. We took a bus to Chicago, stopping just before O’Hare international airport to grab some lunch. Most of the group went to the nearby Wendy’s where we parked the bus, but the three morale officers, myself, and several others decided to try the nearby Taco Burrito King, a worthwhile endeavor. We arrived at O’Haire and had some time to kill before our flight to Denver. After boarding and listening through the typical safety procedures, we all plugged into the various movies or music we had available to us. The recent biopic of Freddie Mercury, Bohemian Rapshody, was playing on DirecTV and many of us watched as Rami Malek beautifully portrayed the incredible life of Freddie Mercury.
After arriving in Denver, we hopped on a bus and set out for First Mennonite Church in Denver. We arrived at the church to beautiful smells of peppers and onions wafting from the Kitchen. The congregation had prepared a taco dinner for us, which we were all grateful for. After dinner, we spent some time setting up the sanctuary and rehearsing a few pieces before coordinating with our host families and heading home. I left with three other choir members to stay with Lisa and Mark Longacher, parents of a fellow senior at GC. After some time in the living room, playing the Mennonite game and figuring out everyone’s relations, we all headed for bed. Overall, it was a great day of travel with no major hiccups and at the end of the day, we were in the shadow of the Rockies, one of my favorite places on Earth. We are all looking forward to a fantastic week of traveling, singing, and spending time together.
