Translation: Tired, but happy!
We made it!
On Wednesday, we left Goshen and arrived in London Thursday morning. After we got off, we had a 30 minute coach ride with our personal guide Jo, who introduced us to London. We arrived at our hotel to drop off our luggage. Then we split up into our separate groups (Music, Visual Art, and Theatre) and toured the surrounding neighborhood. We spent all day doing that, and ended our day at our classroom, where we will be having class each morning. Afterwards, we were free to relax and have supper, or go to bed…. Most of us went to bed and woke up @2AM.
Friday was similar to the Thursday, but we toured major art-related locations that we could come back to throughout the next 3 weeks. Some of those include, The West End, Tate Modern, Royal Opera House, The Globe, St. Paul’s Cathedral, Westminster Abbey (we will go to their service on Sunday), and The South Bank Theatre. This was also a great introduction to using The Tube and the bus routes to get around the city.
Some of the highlights have been Naomi Peters singing “Shallow” with a busker in front of The Tate Modern and Randy Horst being such a good tour guide that strangers came and listened intently to his explanation of the major locations. Seeing the variety of architecture of all the buildings from Gothic, to post modern all in one day was also a big plus. Some things we are not used to yet are traffic (they use the wrong side of the road, but the right side according to Jo), currency, and jet lag. We have packed in a lot these past two days, but we are excited to continue exploring this city and to learn new things about it.
