On Saturday and Sunday we took an overnight trip to Nagua, a coastal town in the north with a campus of the Universidad Abierto Para Adultos (Open University for Adults). The very modern and beautiful campus gave us warm welcome at every turn, making a huge impression on the students. Although they don’t offer scholarships for their sports teams, their teams played with heart, determination, and grace.
Several students said that the memory they will remember most from the visit was when Amable, the university’s director, brought coconuts to our softball dugout and opened all of them for us, to quench our thirst with authentic coconut milk.
This was a long trip, so the next entry will feature the basketball game later on Saturday and a museum we visited on Sunday.
