Today we finished the last of the 36 small 30m X 30m burns in the KLEE plots! I am thankful to all the students, Mpala Research Centre staff, and research colleagues. Asanteni! Here is a video of one of the burns. – Ryan
Today in aiding with the burning, we collected data on ant evacuation. The ant evacuation data was collected by counting the ants as they evacuated the whistling thorn trees. You could see the ants speed up as the smoke got closer, the ants would go into the soil at the base of the tree. We then went on a game drive and saw two impalas fighting, hearing the grunts and the force was astounding. And finally on our way back we saw the brightest and most diverse sunset I have ever seen.
