Community Partners
The Center for Community Engagement is actively seeking partnerships with organizations to further develop community partnerships based on reciprocity, working with both established and new partners to advance work in the community in the context of our students learning.
Developing Community Partnerships based on Reciprocity
The Center for Community Engagement seeks to further develop community partnerships based on reciprocity, working with both established and new partners to advance work in the community in the context of our students’ learning. We will develop community-engaged learning in two ways:
1) by enhancing existing partnerships in local and global communities, and
2) starting a place-based initiative with partners in the neighborhoods of North Goshen and South Central Elkhart
Provide guidance, training, and resources to deepen and widen the work we are already doing with community partners.
Service & Community-Engaged Learning
Goshen College has historically used the language of “service” in our work for the common good in local and global communities. The phrase “community-engaged learning” indicates a shift from working for those in need to collaborating with those communities to fulfill our mutually shared goals. We move from being providers, or sometimes spectators, in those communities to becoming partners in an ongoing and deepening relationship.
