Petition for Course Change
Courses in the Core align with learning outcomes that the faculty of Goshen College have determined are essential to a Goshen College education. Each course in the Core goes through a review process before it is included in the catalog as a Core course. Occasionally, students cannot take a designated Core course in a particular area because of extenuating circumstances. In this case, students may petition to have a different course meet a Core requirement.
Process
- Meet with your advisor to review your situation. If they agree that you need to petition for a course change, proceed to the next steps. (You might do step two in conversation with them.)
- Review the learning outcomes (linked below) for the area where you need an alternative course. Use those learning outcomes to select a course you can take, either from the Goshen College course offerings, or from the online consortium.
- Complete the course petition form linked below and send it to the current Core Curriculum Director. Ask your advisor to indicate their support for your petition by also emailing the Core Curriculum Director.
- If you are petitioning for a GLST substitution, meet with the Director of Global Engagement to review your course substitution options.
