This week’s theme: Restore us, O God! We hope.
I hope for a lot of things. Most recently, I’ve hoped that my aging car would make a long trip on spring break. I’ve hoped for a meal worthy of my cravings from the dining hall. Almost daily, I hope for my procrastination to encourage me to start things sooner. Though not to be belittled, these all seem quite petty compared to what’s significantly more present. There are greater things to put my hopes in as well: that money will become the least of my worries, that I’m on the right path, that our country is in the right hands for now.
It’s ok to have these aspirations and desires, however big or small. That is, if they’re not held onto alone. As much as we think we can run on our own fuel, it is inevitable that we will run until we’ve run away from the One who’s best fit to help us. Trust me, even if you’re not fond of running you can still easily fall into this pattern. God promises to fight for us and never leave us. We can promise ourselves and others that we’ll be more, do better… We can look to our leaders for direction on how to achieve that consistency and whatever else is desired. However, we can only hope to be consistent; He is constant.
May Danny Gokey’s catchy tune carry you away today:
There’s hope in front of me
There’s a light, I still see it
There’s a hand still holding me
Even when I don’t believe it
I might be down but I’m not dead
There’s better days still up ahead
Even after all I’ve seen
There’s hope in front of me
