Scripture: Luke 1:46b-55 (NRSV)
Back at home we had a fair, and under one tent, there was a chamber full of money in it. You could go in and they would turn on the fan. Your job was to grab as much money as you could.
People told me that college would get easier, and it has for some people, but now I feel as though I am stuck in the chamber frantically trying to grab all my responsibilities and get them all under control.
In desperation I wonder…
How can Mary be singing a song of praise?
She is pregnant with God’s child and none of this in her control!
And still she found the time to praise Him.
I guess this verse was reminding me that I don’t have to be in control.
The money chamber is only a small part of my life and God is in control of life outside of the chamber.
I won’t live my whole life in the money chamber, so what should we fear in life if we have someone like Him?
I am not saying this as if it is the formula for life and that this is the solution to all anxieties and struggles that people may face in life. The context of this passage is that Mary was struggling, and she found comfort and healing when meeting with Elizabeth, who was still pregnant with John the Baptist at the time. It was a journey, and as someone who can confidently say that they are in a bit of a rut, we can find solace in knowing that God is in control.
Scripture: Luke 1:46b-55 (NRSV)
And Mary said, My soul magnifies the Lord, 47and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, 48for he has looked with favor on the lowliness of his servant. Surely, from now on all generations will call me blessed; 49for the Mighty One has done great things for me, and holy is his name. 50His mercy is for those who fear him from generation to generation. 51He has shown strength with his arm; he has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts. 52He has brought down the powerful from their thrones, and lifted up the lowly; 53he has filled the hungry with good things, and sent the rich away empty. 54He has helped his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy, 55according to the promise he made to our ancestors, to Abraham and to his descendants forever.
