Scripture: Colossians 3:1-4 (NRSV)
Sometimes we are so busy with work, hobbies and even serving in church, we put Jesus on the back burner. “Lord, I just don’t have enough time.” Well, God has taken it all away. Many of us are not able to work. All those group activities are now cancelled. We can’t even serve at church right now. God has given each of us the opportunity to fully focus on him during this time of quarantine, this time of Lent.
But will you? The choice is yours. Colossians 3:1-4 gives us several ways to help us stay focused on God. In verse 1, Paul tells us to “set your minds on things that are above.” That means God and His word. Verse 2 tells us not to set our focus “on earthly things.” It’s easy to get sucked into the 24 hours of news related to COVID-19 or the latest shows on Netflix. But we should not be focusing on these earthly things. Verse 3 talks about “for you have died.” Our old self has died, and we now belong to Christ. We can not lead our lives the same. We must lead a life that glorifies God. The fourth verse reminds us Jesus is coming and we will see him, we will know true glory. Are you ready? Friends, I challenge you to turn your focus on above, on God. Don’t waste time on things that aren’t important. Leave the worries of this world to God. Live a life that makes our Heavenly Father proud of you. He is coming soon. Let’s be prepared for this great day of glory.
Scripture: Colossians 3:1-4 (NRSV)
So if you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth, 3for you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4When Christ who is your life is revealed, then you also will be revealed with him in glory.
