Dancing and Prancing through the Andes

Students are working on getting the public transportation system down, orienteering from their homes to la Fundación then on to Casa Goshen and maybe the other way around! Students are getting more comfortable slowly but surely!

Amanda is taking lengua de señas clases 1on1 with her teacher Mariela. Some classes are in person, some are virtual.

Monday afternoon we took a dance class as a group. This is a studio that just recently opened in our Casa Goshen neighborhood. Nina knows the owners and we set up a time!

We learned Salsa and Bachata basics, a couple styles fundamental latino dance.

Tuesday we hydrated up and took the gondola up Pichincha Volcano which overlooks the Quito valley. At 12,000 feet we didn’t have to go far to feel winded. It was much colder up here than the valley below, so we all enjoyed nice hot chocolate after the hike.

Due to a last minute schedule change, Nina stepped in and delivered a spanish workshop for the morning.

Afternoon charla with Elena. She is a long time friend and former colleague of Klever’s who now lives and works in Ibarra. She talked with us on the subject of movilidad humana, or human migration. We learned about the complexity Ecuador faces today related to immigration issues particularly in welcoming Venezuelan and Columbian immigrants and refugees.
