Job Summary:
The Audio Visual Operations Manager position is responsible for providing a wide range of professional audiovisual service for internal and external events on campus. This is a detail-oriented and technical role responsible for ensuring that live sound, projection, video production and web streaming services are delivered with a high level of professional production values.
The position requires a creative, self-motivate professional with excellent technical, communication, organizational, and troubleshooting skills and a proven record of delivering results in a complex audiovisual environment. The ability to trouble shoot audiovisual systems and manage many simultaneous projects, details, and deadlines is critical.
This is a 12-month full-time, non-exempt on-site position that is eligible for all benefits. It requires weekend, evening, and on-call work in support of a busy campus event calendar. This is not an online or remote position.

Essential Functions:
- Maintain in-depth knowledge of installed audiovisual gear and live stream video systems in all campus event venues and in classroom//multipurpose spaces. Configure, modify, and upgrade video, audio, and computer systems as needed to meet ongoing event needs. Act as primary support to trouble shoot and solve technical issues. Ensure repair needs are swiftly resolved.
- Provide live sound mixing and engineering support for campus events and guest artists, evaluating riders, managing rental, and configuring live sound consoles for performances.
- Operate audiovisual systems for event where needed and in case of emergencies.
- Maintain familiarity with IP addressing and audio and video over IP protocols to enable remote control of equipment and transport audiovisual content via campus networks.
- Maintain accurate technical venue system documentation, drawings, and equipment databases using standard departmental tools and software.
- Continually stay informed of best practices in audiovisual services, assessing new product releases and purchasing equipment that enhances services.
- Participate in weekly planning meetings with the Events Office to assess client needs for each event, determine the appropriate gear required to meet the event needs, and ensure that the appropriate follow up happens.
- Manage the Student Technician team. Maintain an ongoing technical training program to develop student skills in one-on-one and group training situations. Hire student employees, perform evaluations, document disciplinary actions and issues, and terminate employment when necessary. Communicate standards of professionalism and awareness of safety issues to student technicians.
- Manage and maintain a pool of external service providers and independent contractors that will be utilized to provide service.
- Manage the events workflow utilizing the departmental software solutions. ensure departmental data is accurate, build reports as needed, and utilize data to evaluate trends and make recommendations to modify spaces based on historical trend analysis.
- Schedule employees (students and staff) for events and provide detailed work assignments in a timely fashion.
- Oversee post-production audio and video editing services, ensure timely delivery of finished product, coordinate archiving and delivery to clients.
Skills Required:
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Excellent skills in troubleshooting complex sound reinforcement and audio/video distribution systems.
- Excellent ability to build a quality audio mix in a concert setting.
- Excellent understanding of professional audio and video equipment.
- Knowledge of Davinci Resolve, QLab, Ableton, Reaper, or Audacity
- Familiarity with software such as Google Apps, and database software such as FileMaker Pro as well as understanding of computer equipment setup and fluency in MacOS, iOS, and Windows 10 operating systems.
- Ability to design and implement custom video distribution and projection systems for events.
- Familiarity with live streaming software, stream keys and streaming equipment such as Blackmagic atem switchers.
- Familiarity with Zoom, Google, or Microsoft video conferencing tools.
- Basic knowledge of programming or HRML is a plus.
- Basic understanding of audio over IP solutions such as Dante.
- Must be adaptable to a constantly changing technical environment.
Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Music, Production Technology or related field is preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of live sound operation experience is required, preferably with exposure to operation of digital audio consoles, professional video, and projection systems. Some formal education in audio systems and display technology is encouraged (i.e. Syn-Aud-Con, NCAT, or CTS training).
Certifications, Licenses, Registrations: AVIXA Certified Technology Specialist (CTS) accreditation or SYN-AUD-Con Live Sound Operation certificate required within 1 year of employment. Dante Level 1 or higher certification preferred. CPR certification is a plus.
Physical Demands: Lifting sound and video equipment on a daily basis, must be able to lift 50 pounds, extended periods of standing, ability to navigate ladders, catwalks, heights, manholes, and crawl spaces. Significant typing required. Auditory and Visual acuity, ability to use smartphones and touch devices.
