Job Summary:

The Coordinator of Accessibility Services, as a part of the Academic Success Center, is responsible for the provision of services and proactive academic support for students with documented disabilities. The Coordinator promotes accessibility services on campus, interviews students who request accommodations, obtains documentation, and determines reasonable and appropriate accommodations for the classroom, as well as for housing and dietary needs. The Coordinator assists with arranging test proctoring, alternate formats for course texts, accessibility technology, interpreting, and other services for students with
documented disabilities. The Coordinator ensures production of letter of accommodation each semester, serves as a liaison with faculty, and regularly interacts with students. This role reports to the Director of the Academic Success Center.

This is a part-time appointment, (36-40 weeks between Aug and May, 25-30 hours per week). Wages are $24.42 per hour. This is an on-site position.

Education, Qualifications, Skills:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Three to five years’ experience teaching, counseling, or in a related position..
  • Ability and experience with assessing academic challenges facing students and empowering them to create individual plans for academic success, particularly with offering disability services, assistive technology, and working with documentation and accommodations.
  • Demonstrated acumen with successfully learning and implementing new information in an educational environment.

  • Conversational fluency in Spanish

Systems Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of learning technologies such as Learning Management Systems (i.e. Moodle), iPads, and Zoom

Essential Functions:

Manage Accessibility Services – 50%

  • Promote accessibility services and educate the campus community for ways to be inclusive and equitable.
  • Determine appropriate accommodations for the classroom, housing, and dietary needs, working in conjunction with relevant faculty and staff.
  • Recognize the connection between mental wellness and learning.
  • Obtain and store documentation of learning accommodations  for approximately 100 students.
  • Refer students interested in pursuing testing for learning disabilities to appropriate community resources
  • Arrange test proctoring, accessibility technology, interpreting, and other services for students with disabilities
  • Work with Vocational Rehabilitation services to obtain reimbursement for each student whose special accommodations are funded through that county’s Voc-Rehab program.
  • Keep up-to-date on ADA legislation and inform the campus of legal responsibilities.
  • Collaborate with Admissions to communicate with prospective students and families about services and accommodations.
  • Promote academic & accessibility services to new students at orientation events in the summer and fall.
  • Remain current on best practices within accessibility

Student Support – 40%

  • Meet with students to create individual plans that support their academic needs.
  • Meet regularly with and monitor the progress of students with accommodations who are placed on academic warning and need to achieve academic good standing with Goshen College
  • Meet with students to demonstrate and ensure understanding of assistive technology usage
  • May communicate with faculty to resolve individual course needs and accommodations

Serve on institution-wide committees – 5%

  • Represent accessibility services on various committees, such as Retention/Intervention team, Admissions Board, Institutional Compliance, and others as appointed
  • Serve as part of the campus 504 efforts related to meeting ADA requirements

Additional Projects and Research – 5%

  • Shares in responsibility for research and development decisions that impact the overall institution in regards to the student academic experience, particularly with supporting students who are at risk academically and providing services for students with disabilities.
  • Provide direction for projects involving initiatives around accessibility for students and retention efforts.
