ASSISTANT OR ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR OF SOCIAL WORK

SUMMARY:

Full-time, tenure-track, teaching faculty member to teach in the Master of Social
Work (MSW) program offered in collaboration with Goshen College. The
synchronous, online program specializes in mental health and emphasizes student
learning through recorded micro lectures, Zoom classes and an innovative approach to
student assessment. Teach MSW courses in macro practice, research and policy at the
specialized and generalist levels.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach 3-credit-hour MSW courses (4 work load hours each) and serve as
    faculty field liaison to total 30 work load hours each year. For example, teach
    two courses in fall, two courses in spring, and two courses in summer, and
    serve as a faculty field liaison for about eight students in spring and another
    eight students in summer.
  • Teach generalist and specialized practice courses such as macro social work
    practice, policy, and research/evaluation in alignment with CSWE’s nine
    competencies.
  • Prepare course outlines and assignments that mimic social work practice,
    choose textbooks and utilize our innovative approach to assess student
    performance.
  • Prepare recorded micro lectures.
  • Facilitate evening Zoom classes (1 hour/week per course) with active and
    engaged learning practices.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participate in department, school and college meetings. Serve on institution-wide committees. Engage in professional and community service.
  • Mentor students through advising and recruiting activities.
  • Contribute to Bluffton University’s strong tradition of excellence in teaching
    and research.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required qualifications:

  • Masters of social work (MSW) degree from a CSWE-accredited program.
  • Doctoral degree.
  • 2 years of post-MSW social work practice experience.
  • Commitment to the integration of anti-racist and anti-oppressive practices and
    spirituality into MSW education.
  • Commitment to the mission and core values of Bluffton University.
  • Live in or be able to travel to Bluffton, Ohio. If working from a distance,
    willing to travel to Bluffton three times a year. Willing to travel to Goshen,
    IN, occasionally.
  • Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree in social work.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the college/university level, including
    online teaching.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Primarily a sedentary position with frequent attendance of group or individual
meetings in other buildings on campus. Some travel off-campus required for
conference attendance and/or off-campus meetings.

COMPENSATION

Commensurate with education and experience within the university pay scale.
