Get Recognized for Your Achievements

Achievement scholarships recognize your interests, accomplishments, and promise of future achievement at Goshen College.

You may apply for various awards and merit-based scholarships based on your potential choice of major or other campus involvement. Generally, you can receive only one of these awards. Many of the scholarships listed below require a separate scholarship application.

APPLYING FOR ACHIEVEMENT SCHOLARSHIPS

  • Scholarship applications are required, except where otherwise noted.
  • Priority Application Deadline: December 15. You must submit a completed admissions application to Goshen College (including an official transcript and test scores — note: submitting test scores is optional).
  • Achievement Scholarship Application Deadline: January 15. You need to be admitted before your scholarship application(s) will be reviewed.  This deadline applies only to the President’s Leadership Award, the Intercultural Leadership Award, and the DREAM award.
  • Only students entering college directly after high school are eligible unless otherwise indicated.

Applicants may receive a maximum of two awards from the combined categories of academic scholarships, achievement scholarships, and tuition discount benefits. You may apply/audition for any number of awards.

If more than two awards are given, you must choose the two you want to keep. Goshen College limits merit awards and merit-based scholarships so that more funds can be awarded on the basis of financial need. Our achievement scholarships include:

President’s Leadership Award

(FULL TUITION ANNUALLY)

The President’s Leadership Award (PLA) is a competitive scholarship for high-achieving academic students who demonstrate exceptional leadership qualities. Recipients will receive a full-tuition scholarship renewable for a total of 8 semesters. This scholarship requires an application, a personal experience portfolio (essay questions), and the applicant’s high school transcript.

To be eligible to apply for the PLA, you must meet ONE of the following criteria:

  • Have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.85 (on a 4.0 scale)
  • Score at least 1340 on the SAT OR at least 29 on the ACT (note: Goshen College is test-optional)
  • Be a National Merit Semifinalist

Eligible applicants must also participate in Scholarship Day (Jan. 25, 2025). If you have an unavoidable conflict, contact your admissions counselor.

Note: The President’s Leadership Award will replace the student’s previously awarded academic scholarship.

Intercultural Leadership Award

($25,000 ANNUALLY)

The Intercultural Leadership Award is for incoming first-generation students of color who have demonstrated a distinguished academic record, leadership potential, and commitment to giving back to their community. The scholarship is for $25,000 a year and is renewable for a total of eight consecutive semesters based on academic performance and program participation. This scholarship requires an application, a response to an essay question, and the applicant’s high school transcript.

In order to qualify to apply, students must meet the following criteria:

  • Be of African-American, Hispanic/Latino-, Asian- or Native-American heritage
  • Be a first-generation college applicant
  • Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident with a valid permanent resident card
  • Have a cumulative high school grade point average of 3.0 or above (on a 4.0 scale)
  • Score at least 970 on the SAT OR at least 18 on the ACT (note: Goshen College is test-optional)
  • Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by your state’s deadline
  • Participate in Scholarship Day (Jan. 25, 2025). You should contact your admissions counselor if you have an unavoidable conflict.

Note: The Intercultural Leadership Award will replace the student’s previously awarded Leader of Color Award and academic scholarship.

Dream Award

(UP TO FULL TUITION ANNUALLY)

The Dream Award is for one undocumented student in recognition of leadership potential and commitment to giving back to their community. The scholarship is for up to full tuition and is renewable for a total of eight consecutive semesters. This scholarship requires an application, a personal experience portfolio (essay questions), and the applicant’s high school transcript.

In order to qualify to apply, students must meet the following criteria:

  • Be undocumented
  • Have a cumulative high school grade point average of 3.0 or above (on a 4.0 scale)
  • Score at least 970 on the SAT OR at least 18 on the ACT (note: Goshen College is test-optional)
  • Participate in Scholarship Day (Jan. 25, 2025). If you have an unavoidable conflict, contact your admissions counselor.

Leader of Color Award

($2,500 ANNUALLY)

The Leader of Color Award is designed to recognize qualified students of color who have demonstrated a strong academic record during their high school years. The scholarship is for $2,500 a year ($1,250 per semester) and is renewable for a total of eight consecutive semesters.

In order to be eligible to receive this scholarship, students must meet the following criteria:

  • Be of African-American, Hispanic/Latino-, Asian- or Native-American heritage
  • Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident with a valid permanent resident card
  • Have a cumulative high school grade point average of 3.0 or above (on a 4.0 scale)
  • Score at least 970 on the SAT OR at least 18 on the ACT (note: Goshen College is test-optional)

Indiana Latino Institute (ILI) Scholarship

(UP TO FULL TUITION ANNUALLY)

Goshen College is in partnership with the Indiana Latino Institute to offer the ILI Scholarship. The scholarship is for up to full tuition and is renewable for a total of eight consecutive semesters.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be Latinx
  • Must participate in the ILI Education Program for one full year before applying
  • Attend the ILI Education Summit
  • Participate in the ILI Coaching Program as a high school student
  • Participate in the ILI College Coaching Program as a college student
  • Have a cumulative high school grade point average of 3.0 or above (on a 4.0 scale)
  • Score at least 970 on the SAT or at least 18 on the ACT (note: Goshen College is test-optional)

 


Athletic awards

Athletic awards are available to first-year and transfer students and are given by coaches of their respective sports. Recipients are expected to be significant contributors at the varsity level. Award amounts vary. For more information, fill out the Recruiting Information Form.


Music Excellence and Achievement Awards

($1,000-$10,000 ANNUALLY)

The Goshen College Music Department offers music scholarships to first-year and transfer students. In recognition of their commitment to the Goshen College Music Department, various donors have established scholarships. Students interested in a music major or minor are eligible for Music Achievement Awards ranging from $2,000 to $10,000 annually. Ensemble Grants of $1,000 annually are available for students who participate in a Goshen College music ensemble, and are not planning to major or minor in music.

All instruments and voice parts are encouraged to apply, including students interested in composition.

Gorsline Academic Awards: Business, Theater, Communication

($1,500 ANNUALLY)

In recognition of her interest in business and communication, Kay Bandelier Gorsline established the Gorsline Academic Awards for students majoring in business, theater, or communication at Goshen College.

Eligibility and Application Procedure:

  • High school seniors and transfer students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) or higher and be eligible for admission to Goshen College.
  • Apply for admission to Goshen College.
  • Complete the Gorsline Academic Award application.
  • For business applications, submit a 30-second video indicating why you want to pursue a business degree at Goshen College.
  • For theater and communications applications, participate in a short interview by phone, video conference, or in-person.

Anglemyer Education Award

($1,000-$3,000 ANNUALLY)

The Anglemyer Education Scholarship is available to students at Goshen College intending to major in teacher education. Priority selection will go to students from Elkhart County; the next priority will be students from selected Indiana counties, with any remaining funding awarded to students from Indiana.

Eligibility and Application Procedure:

  • High school and transfer students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) or higher and be eligible for admission to Goshen College.
  • Complete the admission application for Goshen College.
  • Complete the Anglemyer Education Award application.
