Bonnie E. Herrington Fisher Scholarship Fund
Bonnie Elizabeth (Hawkins) Herrington Fisher, born November 1901, died June 1982.
Bonnie was raised on a farm in LaPorte County, Indiana, and graduated from Stillwell High School in 1919. She was the first in her family to attend college, attending Valparaiso University to get her teaching credentials. After she married Albert Herrington she had to give up teaching and raised one daughter, Roma Herrington. Mr. Herrington died in 1947 and Bonnie returned to teaching and went to Goshen College to get her degree. Her daughter Roma was enrolled in the teacher education program at Goshen College at the same time, with mother and daughter often attending the same classes together.
While at Goshen College, Mrs. Herrington had a detached retina and had to miss a lot of class time. Professors, especially Dr. Mary Royer, were so kind to help her keep up with schoolwork, and she never forgot their kindness and generosity.
She taught many years for the New Paris and WaNee School Districts, until her mandatory retirement age. She really regretted having to leave the classroom.
