John served in leadership positions with healthcare-related organizations and committees both while employed at medical centers and as he operated his own businesses. He was also involved with community development and charitable organizations.
When he died in February of 1993, John was a part of the administrative team at Swedish Hospital in Denver. After John’s death his aunt, Mary E. Oswald, (not to be confused with his mother Mary Oswald) wanted to start building a scholarship in John’s name. She has worked at setting up this scholarship for over a period of 5 years. Mary E. was born in 1921 and retired after also spending her life in health care, dealing with medical records administration.
