Milford and Rosie Roupp, our parents, loved music and cared very much for education and the church. We felt a scholarship in their memory encompassing all three aspects would be a fitting tribute to them.
J. Earle and Nadine Roose were raised during the Great Depression in Goshen, Indiana. While Earle was in the band at Goshen High School, he met a flute player by the name of Nadine Miller who would later become his wife.
Octavio was a student at Goshen College from 1948 to 1950 and when Octavio and Pita were considering their charitable estate planning, they agreed they wanted to assist future generations of students to be able to afford the high quality, unique educational experience of Goshen College.
Dedicated to Sarah Rody, regarded scholar of applied mathematics and knitter of internationally admired animal hats. Sarah Rody -- also being a pianist, vocalist, baker, computer programmer, board gamer, math teacher, and Lord of the Rings enthusiast -- is the knitter of her own pattern in life and shares her time and many talents freely with her family, friends, and students.
Those who answer a mid-career call to the ministry often face strain on their finances and family lives. If this fund can in any way ease that strain, it will help to serve God’s purpose in reaching out to people around the world to call them to Him in glory.
Bill hopes that this scholarship, designed for math education majors at Goshen College, inspires and encourages future recipients to be the same kind of teacher and mentor that Sue was for her students.
Josephine Shuman Robbins has spent her lifetime in the Bloomsburg-Danville Pennsylvania area. Josephine is a graduate of Temple University where she received her law degree.
Since both Doug and Sharon are Goshen College graduates and Sharon received her nurse's training at GC, the Risser Nursing Scholarship is designed to encourage future Goshen College students to pursue a nursing degree and dedicate themselves to serving others.
Through their efforts, the encouragement of their children, the vision and support of Goshen College and President Shirley Showalter, the foundation for an Elder College was established in year 2000. Later Elder College became known as Lifelong Learning Institute.
