Beatrice Violet LaBour Trust Scholarship for Nursing Students

In 1971 Goshen College received word that Mrs. LaBour had established a Trust to be available to Goshen College to provide scholarships for Nursing students; preference being given to needy students of high scholastic standing.

Mrs. LaBour, a former Elkhart IN, resident, died in March 1971. During life she had expressed much interest in health programs, and in volunteer hospital projects. She had observed the development of the nursing education program at GC and the cooperative arrangement between it and Elkhart General Hospital.

Perhaps her daughter Mary E. LaBour best sums up the convictions of the late Mrs. LaBour: “My mother had always had a keen interest in nursing and wanted to do something to help girls who wished to study nursing. Goshen College was so very logical a choice because of its work in connection with Elkhart General Hospital. Nurses are so very important to all of us, and your girls at Goshen College are doing such a good job.”

Mrs. LaBour’s husband, Harry, died several years earlier after retiring from his leadership post at Labour Pump Company. Afflicted with Parkinson’s disease, he also recognized acutely the need for qualified nurse and health practitioners.
