A graduate of George Washington University, Margaret was born in Oklahoma. Byron and Margaret were married in 1940 and lived in St. Louis, Kansas City and Cleveland. The Newtons and their three daughters Caroline, Nancy and Dorothy, lived in Cleveland for 35 years.
Byron first visited Goshen as an accountant for Filter Fabrics, then a Cleveland company which had purchased property in Goshen. He visited Goshen on several occasions and returned from his trips with remarks about Goshen College. Prior to his death in 1984, Byron talked with Margaret about the possibility of the Filter Fabrics company, which he by then owned, setting up a scholarship fund at Goshen College. Her husband’s interest in the college led Margaret to visit Goshen College herself in 1985. Margaret chose to carry out Byron’s wishes through the establishment of this fund.
Byron and Margaret moved to New Port Richey, Florida in 1976 where He died in 1984. Margaret is now married to Henri G. Grignon.
