Ronald Hoffman Scholarship
The Ron Hoffman Scholarship Fund for athletics is to be established as a memorial to Ron Hoffman, a student at Goshen College in the late fifties, who was killed in a single—engine plane crash June 2, 1990.
At the time of his death Ron was general manager of eastern commercial products for Goodyear Tires. Ron joined Goodyear in 1965 in the service department of the Goodyear store in Goshen. He steadily worked his way to the executive level of the Goodyear Corporation. Along the way Ron was credited with developing the highly successful nationwide truck tire center and retread organization.
In addition to his efforts for Goodyear and his devotion to his family, Ron was in love with athletics. He was involved with athletics as a participant, coach, and spectator, but at all levels he was a firm believer in both the recreational and educational value of athletics.
It is hoped that through the Ron Hoffman Scholarship Lurid others will be aided in furthering their athletic careers and gaining a deeper appreciation for the role of athletics in a well—rounded education.
Initially it is intended that the earnings from the fund be used for baseball scholarships and treated as “income under the Gingerich Award guidelines (i.e. any “Hoffman” awards will be matched with a contribution to the Gingerich Fund). If the Hoffman Fund grows large enough to support other sports as well, that change can be made at that time.
