Minter Biology Scholarship

Don and Marty Minter are strong supporters of Christian higher education.  They also care about their environment.  It is that combination–and their love of sharing what God has given them–that has led them to establish the “Minter Biology Scholarship” at Goshen College.

Although both Minters have strong backgrounds in the sciences–Don is a family practice physician in Goshen, and Marty is a registered dietitian–their children have inspired them the most in their awareness of environmental issues.  Three of their children pursue careers in forestry, outdoor recreation and with the Environmental Protection Agency respectively.

The Minters also clearly have their own strong desire to share the resources God has given them.  Their tradition of sharing their talents both here and abroad stretch back to their early years of married life.  They have spent terms of service among the Navajo Indians with the Public Health Service in Arizona as well as with the Navajo Brethren in Christ Mission in New Mexico.  Both participated in a two-month medical exchange to the People’s Republic of China in 1985.  They also served on a mission hospital staff in Zimbabwe in 1989.

The Minter’s enjoyment of young people shines in their choice of activities at home.  Both Don and Marty were mentors for junior high age youth at Goshen College Mennonite Church.  They taught that Sunday School class ten years.  Marty also tutored fourth-graders at a local elementary school, and Don gave leadership to the Goshen Boys Club as a member of that organization’s board.

The Minters’ generosity will add depth to the Goshen College biology department by helping talented young people further their education
