Roberta B. Miller Nursing Scholarship
After obtaining her R.N. degree from Presbyterian Hospital and a B.S. Degree from Denver University, Denver, Colorado, Roberta married Carroll Miller and they moved to the family farm near Middlebury, Indiana.
Roberta’s work history included working as a staff nurse on the 3:00 – 11:00 pm shift from 1960 to 1962 at Goshen General Hospital and from 1962 to 1965 for High Park Physicians. In 1965, she was appointed Director of Nursing at Goshen General Hospital. In 1968 she took a leave of absence to obtain a M.S. degree from Colorado University after which her vocation continued as Director of Nursing and Assistant Administrator at Goshen General through 1971. During this period, part of her responsibility was to work with the nursing faculty of Goshen College to facilitate student clinical experience at Goshen General.
In 1972 the Millers moved to Greely Colorado where Roberta accepted a position as Director of Nursing at North Colorado Medical Center. She continued in several assistant administrative positions and as “affiliate” faculty for the Nursing Department at the University of Northern Colorado until her retirement in 1995.
The medical profession was a rewarding and satisfying experience for her and so after retiring, she wanted to encourage and assist others by establishing nursing scholarships – especially for “non-traditional” students – and in a small way be an advocate and support for the nursing profession.
